Conservation work in progress at Gwalia - Arts Place and the School teachers house is currently closed.
Gwalia ghost town is going to be a hive of activity with the Gwalia Upgrade Project aimed to revitalise buildings and structures associated with the Sons of Gwalia goldmine, operational from 1898 to 1963.
Eleven timber and iron miners’ cottages, Hoover House, the former Mine Office and Assay building will undergo building works based on heritage impact statements and scope of works prepared by a Heritage Architect. Major restoration work to the timber incline Headframe constructed in 1898 was completed at the end of October 2017.
Work is currently in progress to the School teacher's and Art's Place. These building will reopen in July 2018.
The Gwalia Upgrade Project is due for completion at the end of December 2018.
