Gwalia Upgrade Project

Work has recently started on upgrading historic Gwalia.

Gwalia ghost town is going to be a hive of activity with the Gwalia Upgrade Project aimed to revitalise buildings and structures associated with the Sons of Gwalia goldmine, operational from 1898 to 1963.

Eleven timber and iron miners’ cottages, Hoover House, the former Mine Office and Assay building will undergo building works based on heritage impact statements and scope of works prepared by a Heritage Architect. The timber incline Headframe constructed in 1898 will undergo major work over a 18-week period.

The Gwalia Upgrade Project is due for completion at the end of December 2018.
