Hoover House high tea

A Parisian themed high tea, set against the backdrop of historic Hoover House and the tranquil garden, was held on Mother’s Day 14 May 2017 and attended by more than forty guests. Beautiful decorated tables with sophisticated centrepieces was created by Margot Epis. A Chanel bag was filled with soft peach coloured roses and accessorised with flair. Typical French embellishments complemented an array of teapots and tea cups filled with daisies, roses and greenery. An eclectic mix of teaware, some heirlooms from local ladies, completed the stylish scene.  

The French inspired menu further enhanced the theme. Local Leonora ladies, Cally Meynell and Talitha Sprigg made profiteroles, pastries, truffles, mini cupcakes and apple roses to name a few of the sweet delicacies. Mel Hosie and Shania Whitby prepared sandwiches with interesting fillings and no high tea will be complete without cream scones baked fresh the morning by Margot Epis.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship by Larnie Petersen from the Central Hotel, everyone received a glass of sparkling wine on arrival. Julie Coufos helped dressing the tables, setting up and assisting Larnie and three Central Hotel staff to serve the food and beverages. Tanya Browning, Charlotte Huckerby and Tracy did the kitchen duties of washing up.

“The high tea was a true community event with volunteers dedicating their time and expertise, making the day a success. All the help and support for this venture is much appreciated”, said Elaine Labuschagne from the Shire of Leonora.

The afternoon provided the opportunity to spend time with family, mingle with acquaintances and make new friends. This event with its exquisitely decorated tables, attention to detail and excellent food, set the trend for similar functions to be held at historic Hoover House.
