Lot 502 Tower Street

In 1924, Williams Cottage was owned by storekeeper Larry R. Crampton, who had the store at the Gwalia Block for many years.

In 1929 the building, still owned by Crampton, was occupied by labourer Tom Bishop. Crampton at that time had four shops operating on the Block, including a bakery. He is not entered in the Gwalia Rate Books for a residence at this time, so it is possible he was living in Leonora.

Tom Williams, who is recorded as the owner of the house in the 1940s, worked in the Sons of Gwalia Mine’s gold treatment plant in the 1930s and 1940s. During this time the house was rented out to teachers appointed to the Gwalia School.

This cottage has a lounge with a fire place, a bedroom and kitchen at the rear and all the floors are concreted.

Conservation work was done under 1987 National Estate Grants Program and the 1995/96 Adopt-a-Cottage programme.
