Lot 1132 Corner of Kane and Manning Street

This Lock-Up (jail cell) was relocated from Murrin Murrin, east of Leonora, in July 1999. Although the Lock-Up is not from Gwalia, it is representative of cells from the early 1900s.

The Murrin Murrin Lock-Up features exterior cladding of horizontal corrugated iron and a low-pitched skillion roof. The interior walls and the ceiling are lined with tongue-and-groove timber.

In 1903 the first Police Station in Gwalia opened in a tent. The following year a more permanent structure was completed with a residence attached. The Police Station closed on 2 February 1964.
