21. Martinazzoli's Camp

Lot 1132 Tower Street

Martinazzoli’s Camp, a twin gable-roofed square structure clad with galvanised corrugated iron, was constructed in 1938/39.

The cottage, comprising two bedrooms, kitchen and living room, was initially owned by A. Pitossi in 1939/40, with the rateable value recorded as £8 ($16).

G Martinazzolli was noted as the owner from 1945/46 until 1965/66 when the rateable value was £19 ($38). It is believed that Mrs Martinazzolli had a washhouse and took in washing and ironing.

In 1985 the camp was in partial ruin and needing repairs to the roof and walls when it was relocated to Lot 1132 Tower Street, opposite Patroni’s Guest Home. Martinazzoli’s Camp was restored in 1995/96 during the Adopt-a-Cottage project.

Visitors are invited to enjoy the view of Gwalia from the bench under the covered outdoor area.
