![]() | Lot 1333 Kane Street The two-bedroomed timber-floored cottage was built circa 1920 on Crown Land close to the mine, and is still located in its original position on Lot 1333 on the corner of Kane and Tower streets. The Lovi family were the last occupants of the cottage, which has a lounge and kitchen, a skillion (lean-to) verandah on the front and a skillion extension on the east side. The cottage became known as Art’s Place when local resident Arthur De Klerk carried out repairs to the structure after it had been damaged in strong winds in about 1980. The verandah is lined with patterned pressed tin while the interior walls are lined with a combination of flat and patterned metal and filter cloth. The original oven can still be seen in the kitchen with its brick surround and external metal chimney. An unusual feature of the cottage is the small bathroom and toilet leading from the kitchen - very few houses of the era had internal bathrooms. |
